A reminder to exercise…your civic rights

Just a reminder from your friendly neighborhood journalist: For those of you who won’t be around on Nov. 8 to cast your vote, absentee voting on the proposed events center begins tomorrow.

Here’s how you can do that:

People can get a sample ballot from www.siouxfalls.org or the City Clerk’s Office at 235 W. 10th St.

They also can go to the Minnehaha County Auditor’s Office at the Minnehaha County Administration Building at 415 N. Dakota Ave. between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

For more information, contact the Minnehaha County Auditor’s Office at 367-4220.

Also, for those of you with questions about the project, the City of Sioux Falls plans to do a number of informational sessions on the project up until Nov. 8. Look for those dates on argusleader.com and on siouxfalls.org.

I went to an informational meeting this evening at the Main Library. There’s a 20-minute presentation, then time for questions. A number of city staff were at tonight’s session, including Mark Cotter, Mike Cooper, Darrin Smith and Kendra Siemonsma.

Siemonsma said the city has about 90 booked speaking engagements with community groups on the events center project, and has completed 35 of those.

The next presentation is scheduled for Thursday from 6-7 p.m. at the Oak View Library.
